Giving and Support
SSA engages in fundraising projects throughout the year in order to ensure the quality education that we strive to impart to our students. Some of our projects include a Give or Get project, a Mezuza project, a Kids’ Art project and an Annual Fund Raising event. We invite parents to help the academy realize both its mission and its vision by contributing to one or more of our fundraising projects. Click on the links in the menu at left for more information on our current projects.
Annual Fundraising Event
Last year's fund raising event was our SSA Comedy Night featuring comedian Elon Gold .It took place the first week of June, 2011 at Locale 514. Over 250 friends of the Academy attended. It was a fabulous evening catered by Java U with decor provided by Global. With a little help from the morning team at Virgin Radio, we were able to raise in excess of $80,000 to give back to our school.

Graduation Tree of Honor
Is your child graduating in June? Celebrate this milestone by purchasing a leaf, branch, or root on our Graduation Tree of Honor.
Home and School Fundraising
Our Home and School Association funds all our children’s outings and holiday treats. The Home and School engages in several fundraising projects. The Chocolate Bar Sale at the beginning of the year is an annual event. Parents who contribute to the Home and School events are contributing directly for the reduction of the tuition fees of their children.
The Mark and Linda Zimmerman Mezuzah Program
Two years ago, the Zimmerman Family generously donated 50 Mezuzahs, hand made by Ethiopian Jews in Israel. Many have already been affixed to doors in the Pre-K and main branch. Beautiful acknowledgement plaques are prominently displayed in the main entrance lobby. Help support this project by sponsoring a mezuzah.
Planned Giving @ SSA
A planned gift is a means of arranging a donation now so that Solomon Schechter Academy and its students will realize the benefits in the future. A planned gift allows a donor to make a significant impact at SSA while receiving far-reaching tax benefits.
Types of planned gifts can include bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, RRIFs, gifts of securities, gifts in kind, gifts of residual interest and gifts of life insurance policies. Many donors find these arrangements very attractive because they can help satisfy financial and philanthropic goals by making a larger gift than would otherwise be possible.
A planned gift may provide immediate funding or be used to establish an endowment. These gifts may be made during the donor's lifetime or as part of an estate.
Through a commitment today, a planned gift to Solomon Schechter Academy can create a significant donation in the future and enable a donor to leave a permanent legacy.
For more information on making a planned gift to SSA please contact Naomi Blumer, Director of Development at 514-485-0866, ext. 136. Or nblumer@solomonschechter.ca |
